Stem Cell Ingredients

Skin stem cell has the ability to replenish and maintain the balance of cells within the skin tissue and regenerate damaged tissues during injury. As skin ages, the ability of skin stem Cells to function decreases. Stem cell active ingredients formulated in anti-aging, anti-wrinkle creams function to help protect the existing human skin stem cells from damage/deterioration and/or stimulate the skin’s own stem cells to respond better to skin damage. Stem cell ingredients in stem cell anti-aging cream are either peptides/enzymes or derived from plant stem cells. In contrast to human stem cell, plant (stem cells) are totipotent, meaning that every cell has the ability to regenerate new tissues or even the whole plant. In addition, all plant cells can dedifferentiate and become a stem cell.

Commercially available patented (plant) stem cell ingredients are found to be able to:

  • Re-activate dormant stem cells to stimulate fresh, new skin cell production
  • Increase production of new skin cells
  • Increase the area of new skin growth
  • Increase natural collagen production
  • Increase elastin synthesis
  • Reduce wrinkle and fine lines
  1. Peptides/Enzymes
    • Peptide 199 found in Kate Somerville Cyto Cell skin care line
    • enzyme Telomerase found in ReVive’s Peau Magnifique
    • peptide 153 found in Amatokin skin cream
  2. Plant Stem Cell
    • PhytoCellTec™
    • Edelweiss Stem Cells
    • Gotu Kola Stem Cells
  3. Indirect Acting Ingredients — These ingredients protect skin stem cell from environmental stress – sun UV damage, free radical, toxin. Stem cells are the most fragile of cells. Stress from the sun, pollution, and other toxins weaken them significantly as we age. Therefore, many stem cell ingredient complex also contain sunscreen and antioxidant ingredients. TP-Vityl™, a topical ingredient derived from vitamin E found in Dior’s XP anti-aging skin care line, functions as SPF to stem cells to help maintain stem cell’s self-renewal capacity
