Juvederm Review

How does Juvederm work?

This dermal filler contains hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar that binds to water, giving skin its cushion-like fatty tissue—and plumpness. Over the years, aging and repeated exposure to the ultraviolet light of the sun decrease the amount of hyaluronic acid in our skin, causing it to thin and wrinkle.

It restores this important substance, giving “tired” skin a smoother, plumper appearance.

Two Juvederm Formulations

This filler comes in two formulations. Juvederm Ultra is used to treat moderate facial wrinkles and to create fuller lips. Juvederm Ultra Plus improves the appearance of deeper wrinkles, including the two nasolabial folds that run from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth

Juvederm treatment

No allergy testing is required before treatment, although you should alert your physician if you have a history of severe allergies. To minimize any discomfort, a topical anesthetic may be applied to your skin. Your physician will use a very fine needle to inject the Juvederm filler into the treatment area. You may feel a slight pinprick with each injection.

What you can expect

Typically, some swelling, redness, skin irritation, and bruising occurs. Small bumps may appear under the skin. These side effects usually dissipate within a week. Improvements to your skin and lips—a restored smoothness and fullness—will be immediately noticeable. Juvederm results tend to effectively last 9-12 months.
