And these product claims are same as the well known plant stem cell ingredient – PhytoCellTec or same as the products containing PhytoCellTec

  • Increase production of new skin cells
  • Re-activate stem cells to stimulate fresh, new skin cell production
  • Increase natural collagen production
  • Decrease wrinkle appearance
  • Increase elastin synthesis

The official product site does not have any information about what is contained in the formula.- No descriptions about the science of each critical active ingredients and how effective they are, nor there is full ingredient list published. The official web site is a sales page. The claimed stem cell stimulating ingredients are from amazon.com’s product description page. Three ingredients are said to reactivate the existing skin stem cell. They are Mitostime, Phyko AI-PF, Derm SRC. A little more research to dig into the details of these ingredients would reveal that these ingredients are not stem cell ingredients in particular. But they do have the characteristics of stimulating cell proliferation thereby can increase skin cell turnover. However, they may not act mainly through promoting existing stem cell’s self renewal capacity. Both Mitostime and Phyko AI-PF are extracted from algae called Algin and the ingredients are not expensive at cost. It appears that they are all trademarked ingredients made by BarNet (web site barnet.com). Barnet Products Corp. supplies specialty ingredients and selected commodity products to the Personal Care industry. The company was established in 1987 and has a focus on conceptual active ingredients tested in-vivo or in-vitro.

According to the official brochure published by BarNet. Mitostime’s INCI name is “water and Laminaria digitata extract” while Phyko AI-PF’s INCI name: Water & Hydrolyzed Algin.

1. Mitostime is a concentrated extract of the brown algae Laminaria digitata. The “mito” part of this name refers to mitochondria – the energy factory of the cell. The “stim” part in the name may refer to the word “stimulate” meaning the ingredient can somehow stimulate the mitochondria to work better because cell renewal and turnover requires the consumption of cellular energy. Studies have shown that Mitostime maintains healthy mitochondria in skin for keeping the skin energized. It also protect skin cells from UV rays which give skin a younger appearance and increase skin collagen production. In one clinical study, Mitostime was found to reduce deep wrinkles by 15$ and the skin of the subject looks six years younger on average. Mitostime is an effective ingredient for anti-aging skin care products to prevent skin aging and maintain a more youthful appearance. It stimulates fresh, new skin cell production and increase skin’s natural collagen production.

2. Phyko AI-PF, a marine-derived carbohydrate that mimics the skin’s natural Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF), the process that supports the production of new skin cells. Studies show that it can promote new skin cell production. Studies show that it can increase new skin cell production by up to 57% and new skin growth by up to 680%.

3. Derm SRC PF also known as Seractin, INCI: Bambusa vulgaris extract (and) pisum sativum (pea) extract (and) glucosamine HCI (and) water

This is what were written in a official brochure published by its maker BarNet.

“Look 11 years younger in 4 weeks”
“Facelift without surgery”
“Non-surgical alternative to Botox and Restylane”

According to this document, “Derm SRC-PF combines bamboo silica, pea extract and glucosamine HCl in a synergistic complex that increases the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid and induces cell proliferation and differentiation. Here “induce cell differentiation could be the induction of skin’s stem cell to differentiate into new skin cells. However, nowhere in the document mentioned anything such as stimulate stem cell activity or induce existing stem cell to differentiate to skin cells.

Here is the quote for anti-aging skin care efficacy of Derm SRC based on in vitro and in vivo clinical studies,

In vitro tests showed that, Derm SRC can increase the production of: (pro)collagen 84%, elastin 61%, hyaluronic acid 85%

In vivo tests, shows in 1-2 weeks –

5 days, exfoliation increased by 85%

2 weeks, subjects looked 7 years younger

4 weeks, wrinkles reduced by 45%; elasticity increased by 34%, laxity decreased by 50%, subjects looked 11 years younger
