QuSome™ liposome delivery system

QuSome™ liposome delivery system is a patented technology developed by BioZone Laboratories, Inc. QuSome™ (meaning “quick liposomes”) formulations have been developed with a wide range of active ingredients. This technology represents a substantial enhancement in conventional liposome vehicles.

QuSomes® not only delivers active skin protecting ingredients faster into the lower layers of the skin, but these liposomes are also designed to protect the active ingredient from deterioration. With the unique QuSome® delivery system, the solubility of the active anti-aging agents is preserved, thereby enabling them to reside longer in the areas of the skin where they exert their greatest biological effects. The availability of QuSomes® enables nutrients like alpha lipoic acid to be reliably delivered to the inner layers of the skin.

Compared to conventional liposome technology, QuSome™ liposome delivery system have the following advantages backed up by proven clinical results:

1. Spontaneous Liposomes — QuSomes form spontaneously upon addition of water, without standard heating, cooling and agitation methods. Therefore it is easier to encapsulate active ingredients. (QuSomes can be Unilamellar liposomes or Multilamellar liposomes)

2. QuSome™ is more cost effective than conventional technologies. The cost of QuSome raw materials is significantly lower than phospholipids that make liposomes, which reduces product costs. QuSomes are produced in an aqueous process while competing liposomal systems require the use of expensive and environmentally toxic organic solvents. This cleaner, safer and easily scalable manufacturing process saves time, thus lowering costs in the product development and manufacturing process.

3. QuSomes™ can be used in higher concentrations due to the lower cost of the starting materials,, compared to expensive conventional phospholipids that form liposomes. QuSomes achieve higher encapsulation of active ingredients than liposomes,   thereby enhancing encapsulation of the active ingredient.

4. Multiple QuSome formulations have been developed for a wide range of applications. QuSomes can encapsulate both hydrophobic and hydrophilic ingredients and solubilize small molecules, peptides, and proteins.

5. QuSomes provide Versatile Delivery Routes QuSomes can be delivered in various administration routes, including Topical, (Nasal, Ophthalmic, Patch)

6. Comparative study of the amount of caffeine (the ingredients used in the study) that penetrates through the layers of skin at eight hours showed improved Dermal Penetration of ingredients.

7. Comparative studies show QuSomes have a better release profile than Liposomes.

8. QuSome Toxicity Studies on  acute and subchronic oral toxicity of rats did not reveal any abnormality. Dermal and ocular irritation study on rabbits did not show any abnormality.

9. QuSome formulations have better organoleptics, giving a whiter, non-tacky, odorless, more stable product for topical applications.
