GABA (gamma aminobutyric acid)

Muscle Relaxing or Paralyzing Ingredients In Anti-Wrinkle Cream -

GABA (gamma aminobutyric acid)

GABA (gamma aminobutyric acid) is an amino acid synthesized in the brain that acts as a neurotransmitter inhibitor and is associated with reducing the incidence of seizures and depression. Some cosmetics companies include GABA in their products and claim that topical application relaxes muscles, thus sparing consumers from going through Botox injections. However, GABA has not been proven to relax muscles and reduce the appearance of wrinkles or expression lines when applied topically. Cosmetics companies are hoping that consumers will associate the topical application of products containing GABA with its internal function of controlling the manner in which nerve impulses fire. There is no substantiated research proving GABA works in this manner when applied topically. Lastly, using of GABA in cosmetic products is refuted by the fact that GABA does not work alone to exert its effect internally on nerves. It requires many other substances (substances that are not present in the skin-care products containing GABA) for it to prevent nerves from being triggered and causing muscles to relax.

Products contain and is based  on GABA: Freeze 24/7

According to Freeze 24/7 official web site, “Freeze 24▪7® products contain our patent pending Age-Less Technology™; one of the most advanced technologies in the skincare market today. This innovative technology is comprised of a complex of unique ingredients which includes GABA. Used alone, GABA will produce no effect in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. However, used within our unique complex of ingredients, GABA helps to produce a visible reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

The official web site also provide the following claim: “Our signature Anti-Wrinkle Cream sounds too good to be true. That’s why we commissioned an independent laboratory to conduct clinical trials to demonstrate and measure its effectiveness. What did they find? 100% of the participants (everybody!) saw a 50-90% reduction of the visible appearance of fine lines and wrinkles within 10 minutes of application.”
