Vitamin B5 (Panthenol)

Vitamin B Ingredients In Skin Care Products

Vitamin B5 (Panthenol)

Panthenol (provitamin B5) is the stable analog of pantothenic acid that has been used in skin care, nail products, and most especially in hair products through its enhanced moisturization benefits. When Panthenol comes into contact with skin, it is converted into pantothenic acid, a B Complex factor.

Pro-Vitamin B5 improves and increases the moisture-retention capacity of the skin which allows dry skin to stay supple and elastic longer. It is anti-inflammatory and anti-itching, stimulates epithelization (skin regeneration), and small wounds heals better. In hair care products it makes hair easier to comb, reduces split ends, improves the condition of damaged hair, thickens hair and provides sheen. Panthenol greatly increases the water retention capacity of fingernails, thus increasing their flexibility and stability preventing brittle nails.

Panthenol (Vitamin B-5) Dexapanthenol (Vitamin B-5) is an important skin nutrient required for the production of Co-Enzyme-A. It is Co-Enzyme-A that supplies energy to the cells. This supports rejuvenation and longevity.  Panthenol also works with DMA.

In skin care products D-panthenol is nearly always preferred to the D-pantothenates because it is usually considerably more stable at the pH values below 5 usually employed in these preparations. Suggested percentage is: 1 to 5% (too much will make your skin care product sticky).

Vitamin B5 is often used to help treat acne and is quite effective when used on a regular basis to do so. This vitamin can be a strong weapon against acne.

Vitamin B5 (Panthenol) is a common ingredient in many of ZENMED skin care products.
